The Basics of Automobiles

Automobiles

Automobiles are a form of motorized transportation, and are usually powered by internal combustion engines. These vehicles can carry anywhere from four to seven people. There are many different types of automobiles, and the ones that carry more people are called limos, SUVs, buses, and vans. The word automobile is also sometimes shortened to auto-mobile.

Transmission controls speed and torque

The transmission in an automobile is a mechanical device that transfers the power produced by an engine to the wheels. It can be manual or automatic and can vary gear ratios and speed. The transmission also controls the vehicle’s fuel efficiency. A modern automobile has a Transmission Control Module (TCM) which processes input from sensors and the engine control module to shift gears according to the car’s current speed and throttle position.

Oil tank stores dirt from the oil

The oil tank is a container where you can store fuel oil. They may be above ground or underground. In automobiles, an oil tank is usually underground. It is important to have a clean oil tank, because dirty oil is hazardous to the environment, and it can cause corrosion.

Seat belts reduce the probability of serious injury in an accident

Wearing a seat belt significantly reduces the risk of serious injury and fatality in an automobile accident. Studies have shown that seat belts can prevent serious injuries in almost half of all car crashes. However, there is still room for improvement. According to the World Health Organization, more than 1.2 million people are killed or injured in road traffic accidents each year. More than 50% of these crashes happen in developing countries.

Air bags protect passengers from slamming into the front window

Air bags are important to protect passengers from being thrown into the front of an automobile. These devices prevent passengers from slamming into the windshield, but if they don’t work properly, the passengers can end up getting injured. One woman in Georgia experienced the consequences of a faulty air bag. She was riding in her car with her foot on the dashboard. She was aware of the danger of her actions, but she believed that she could just slide her foot down. Unfortunately, an airbag deployed and sent her foot crashing into her face. She had to undergo several surgeries and still is not fully functional.

Gas-powered internal combustion engine

A gas-powered internal combustion engine in automobiles uses a process called internal combustion to turn gasoline into motion. This process involves tiny explosions that release massive amounts of energy. In a typical car engine, hundreds of these explosions take place every minute. This energy is then harnessed to move the piston.

Body-on-frame construction

Body-on-frame construction is a type of vehicle construction in which the body and engine are connected by frame members. It is also known as unibody construction and is most commonly used in automobiles. This design allows the car to be lighter, safer, and more fuel efficient. This type of construction is also useful for off-road driving. Body-on-frame construction is more popular in large SUVs and pickups.
